Volunteers are an essential part of the fabric of Shepherds’ life. From the gamut of social backgrounds and faith traditions they are united in the common goal of service to the poor. There is a whole range of opportunity for involvement, depending on the volunteers’ interests and time avail-ability: The Soup Kitchen and Grocery Areas of Support Services need daytime Food handlers. The residences and shelters need Escort Drivers, House-keepers, Janitorial and Laundry Workers, Peer Support Workers, Servers and Volunteers to organize Entertainment and Recreational activities.

Volunteers are needed for Building Maintenance, Desk Top Publishing, Fund Raising, Hospital and Institutional Visiting, Income Tax Returns, Lifeskills Support, Prayer Support, Publicity Events, Translation. Their commitment and skills are crucial to the day-to-day operation of Programs. The spirit which they bring to the work is the essential stuff of life at Shepherds.

Jesus said to his disciples, "The harvest is large but there are few workers to gather it in. Pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out workers to gather in his harvest."

(Matthew 9:37-38)
